Last week, I was  talking with a client last week. His Name is Glenn.

Our entire conversation started by him telling me that he had DOUBLED his income since he started working with us… here’s his story.

In 2020, he was working as a software developer – then he was let go.

After a bout with trying to get into the Amazon FBA game – selling physical products – he as starting to wonder what was really going to be the next phase of his career. That’s when he saw an ad… an ad pitching “one simple skill” that could launch a new career.

That ad was for the Inbound Closer Accelerator.

We were talking about his interview process for his first sales gig – I asked:

“What was the exact path you took to getting your first client?”

“Well, first let me say this – one of the main things that came out of my training [at the Sales Mentor] really… was the importance of networking. And so that’s what I did.

I was networking before I finished up the program and continue to do so through various Facebook groups, but also continuing to offer my calendar out there for role plays. 

And I think that was probably the most important even within The Sales Mentor community networking in that I think was equally important because I am in the role I am now because of one of my classmates from sales mentor… She connected me and, you know, kind of talked me up a little bit and got me in with the owner and had the interview and, you know, the rest is history.”

Here’s the magic I want you to see:

  1. He learned the skill.
  2. He connected and leaned into a community.
  3. He TALKED to the community about what he wanted.
  4. He got the job… probably above other prospects…because he was connected. 

There is ZERO reason to try and go out there and “lone wolf” it. 

In fact, it’s probably hurting you chances of getting the gig you want.

Here’s the secret: Networking is not YOU going out and collecting people… it’s YOU going out and being collected INTO groups of people who know what you do.

There a key distinction there… one is you against the world… and the other is you joining a team of like-minded people who want to see each other win. And they will help you win because they KNOW what you want.

He also said something else in this interview:

“It’s not who you know… it’s who knows YOU”

What he means by this is… tell people your goals.

Connect with them.

Talk to them.

People generally want to help others. Let them help you.
